dear PM: transparency first, politics second, please

Dear Sir,

With reference to my post here, and LKS’s blog post here, I have a ‘bold’ but ultimately futile suggestion to AAB and gang: stop the talk, walk the walk. If you guys think you’ve done the right thing, let an independent body examine the dross that consists of your accusations and counter-accusations.

Like I’ve said before, the public want quality answers backed by irrefutable - and non-doctored - fact. Why should these important, urgent issues be examined and investigated by members of parliament who are themselves partisans? No, I suggest you, AAB, allow your most strident critics to investigate everyone in positions of power - yes, let the Opposition do it. How else are you going to root out corruption from within your own ranks?

You say Mahathir’s talking cock? Ok, then let an independent party investigate all the facts of the matter and lay everything out for everyone to see. You’re clean, right, and you believe Mahathir’s accusations are baseless? I, too, doubt the veracity of Mahathir’s claims. So why not go ahead and let an independent party prove it?

Think of the sheer credibility you’ll gain for doing this. Heck, everyone’s been calling you a seat-warmer PM. You do this and the people will keep voting you in election after election. Come on, you’re a politician. This is your chance to be populist and pander to the people, the ones - yes, the very same ones - who voted you in. Stop your wishy-washy non-confrontational attitude and your vacuous silences and take charge of the situation, sir!

I promise you, you do this and not fiddle with the truth - a hint of this and you’ll be devoured by negative public opinion anyway - and I will vote for you everytime you stand for elections. Hell, I’ll campaign at the grass roots level for you if you’ll do this. So: let the Opposition parliamentarians do it, let them have full access and declare EVERYONE suspect. Let the chips fall where they may.

I’m not holding my breath waiting, but I’m waiting nonetheless.

Yours,

XXX

Yup, read that over at Ktemoc’s blog. Must let them expose everything, everything. Let them destroy each other for all I care, I’m just sick and tired of a country with a government that is so opaque, and so steeped in corruption. Bloody frustrating!

@baracuda: you should hear some of the coffee shop talk in JB; people are viewing the whole RM 15billion injection into Johor over the next 10 years as a sham. The first RM 8 billion, people are saying, will be going into some other people’s pockets, and the remainder will be shared out in essentially closed - or decided - tenders.

That’s what is being said, lah. I don’t know if the above is true at all. But I want to be able to see a FULL accounting of this cash inflow from the government.

As far as corruption is concerned, I think there’s a general perception that this tussle between TDM and AAB is over who’s boys (and hangers-on) get a piece of the economic pie. In other words, UMNO princes and their ‘friends’ are struggling to get their share.

I wonder who got a share of the RM 20 million it cost the government to refurbish Jalan Segget in JB town… ah well.
