I’ve been scouring the net for comedies, these days. Maybe it’s a subconscious need for the funnies, or maybe it’s because the flood of American-sitcoms leave a bad taste in my mouth. With everyone being politically correct, no one seems to remember the heady days of stereotypical characters from ‘Mind your language’. Now that was brilliant comedy because it grabbed people’s own prejudices by the balls and tickled.
(I knew Barry Evans, who played the English teacher in ‘Mind your language’, had died but I didn’t know he died alone and forgotten, his last years spent as a taxi driver. So much for destiny.)
Singapore’s Channel 12 (was it? I can’t remember) used to screen Blackadder, but I was too young to find it funny. I’ve found myself spending the past few months constantly watching re-runs on DVDs. Hilariously funny, and very British. I’ve been trying to get my hands on the other Blackadder one-off specials, but I keep forgetting. Nevermind. I’ll do it soon.
But right now, I’m craving for “Yes, Minister” and BBC’s winner for top British comedy, “Only Fools and Horses”. Time to look up Amazon!
