Check out Badawi’s flood of bad news and a losing battle against flagging public opinion. That must explain why there was, recently, a review of PM Badawi’s performance for the past three years. I’m reminded of a recent get-together by NGOs, bloggers and Opposition politicians, discussing how one should “set Pak Lah freeâ€.
I thought it was a pointless, stupid forum at the time. Mostly because forums like the latter are just sessions for people to stand up and make speeches. It’s like a huge gathering of like-minded people preaching to the choir. There isn’t any need for a debate mostly because one side of the fence doesn’t participate – heck, there is no debate. On reflection, though, it’s probably the only thing left to right-thinking members of the Rakyat.
Anyway, looks like Pak Lah is taking a page off of that forum and is sort of declaring that much of his administration’s failure narrows down to the people implementing his policies – the same people who, apparently, have his hands tied and who we should get rid off, presumably to “set Pak Lah freeâ€. To bolster this claim, a variety of experts – from our fine local institutions of higher learning and from the recently disgraced ASLI – got together and gave Pak Lah’s policies a collective imprimatur.
And I’m left scratching my head, wondering why. Mostly because Pak Lah’s policies – incoherently veering on one side to Islam Hadhari and careening off another toward “Bangsa Malaysia†- seem completely vacuous. If all it takes to be PM is a focused, concerted ability to act completely confused, I’d like the job. More: if all it takes to be PM is constant feel-good talk, I’d recommend successful sales people or MLM-ers for the job.
Excuse me: what policies?!
What about this:
- when someone catches the Police on video abusing a ’suspect’, focus all your energies on catching the fella who captured the video.
- when someone reveals details of a stupid and grossly unfair agreement with politically-connected concessionaires, focus on whether such details are secret, and whether you can shit on the whistle blower.
Meanwhile, can someone tell that idiot Sammy that a “20% drop in traffic through the LDP†might also mean a corresponding increase in traffic through other roads for people who need to get to the same destination day-in and day-out?
Ape ni, Sammy?

As someone noted: Yes, we know the administration FAILED. But the problem is, do we have anyone to vote for BESIDES B.N.?
So, we’re screwed. I think, just hire Singapore to run Malaysia. I’m pretty sure even with less press freedom, there will be MUCH better utilization of our natural resources and skyrocket growth. We might even be first world in less than 10 years.
thcotke,
Between devil and deep blue sea.
3rd world mindset will choose the
same devil.
1st world people will ROTATE between them, so they can weaken/restrict the harm done by one.
So are you in 3rd world mindset or with 1st world people?
For my part, I’m willing to give the Opposition a chance though yes, I too worry about the lack of what seems to be a credible alternative to the government.
(I like the idea, for example, of a shadow cabinet in the UK formed by members of the opposition. It presents an alternative, at least.)
But to say that the Opposition can’t possibly do a good job because they’ve got no experience in government is a bit fallacious, to be honest.
While I think governance is too important to be left to amateurs, no one can admit to being fully experienced when coming into something new.
Just look at Badawi: he acts less like a PM and more like an ineffectual minister. He hasn’t adopted a proper mindset or attitude.
