is nathaniel tan going free?

Update: He’s FREE AT LAST!!
Follow the events at his sister’s blog here.

Saw this over at Elizabeth Wong’s blog: Nat’s to be released! :D

Or.. wait. Well, I guess I won’t believe anything till it’s done - I mean, till he’s been released and not re-arrested and stuff. The police may have been scared about Nat bad-mouthing them (see polytikus’ blog post here), but I don’t think he needs to. I just don’t trust the fuzz. So I’ll continue to be a killjoy till he’s really, really released.

In any case, read polytikus’ post on the event being canceled and stuff, and the word hijacking came up, and how things became slightly political. I have my own views on that, but I think I’ll have to mull it over some more before I know what I think about the whole thing.

One thing’s for sure: Nat’s plight got lots of attention because people experienced with this kinda thing knew what to do. I’m wondering how things would be for every other blogger if they were pulled off the streets and slapped in chains. Are bloggers with an “agenda” the only targets? Is every blogger at risk?

And another thing: disclaimers about comments don’t work. Or can’t work, in my opinion. The blogger always has the option to moderate comments before they are posted, automatically. It should fall on the blogger to moderate comments “responsibly”. At least, that’s what the Devil would say, I think.

More later. :D
