I’m about to head out to East Malaysia for a much-needed break. More debauchery and some heavy thinking in between.

I leave West Malaysia today knowing that Abdullah Badawi has finally succumbed to using the ISA. It is the last resort, of the weak and the pathetic. If someone out there is playing a big chess game with the Malaysian public, they’ve scored a point: they’ve forced Badawi by his actions to admit that all is not well in the country.

Again, I find that we’re on the brink of utter chaos - a necessary chaos. Once, the ISA would cow any Malaysian. Today, the story might be quite different. Today, people may yet take to the streets, ISA or no ISA.

I leave for my short hiatus with that one hope.
