“The world condemns liars who do nothing but lie, even about the most trivial things, and it rewards poets, who lie only about the greatest things.
Baudolino, Umberto Eco

Our boss travels the world telling everyone everything’s ok with Malaysia. Some part of me can understand why he does it; it’s national interest, it’s to avoid a loss of confidence from investors, but mostly I suspect, it’s to avoid the embarrassing conclusion that his administration has been ineffective if not incompetent. In the meantime, someone who tells the truth must come out in the open wearing sunglasses, sporting a month-old beard and trying to look everything but his normal self. It just goes to show how popular the truth is in Malaysia, doesn’t it?
